Back in the glorious summer of 2023, Martin prerecorded a piece with a production company who came to Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary (HWHS) to film a documentary called ‘My Best Friend’s an Animal’.

Big Wave TV describes ‘My Best Friend’s an Animal’ as an emotive, heart-warming series. It tells the stories of humans who have unlikely, extraordinary friendships with wild animals. Martin features with Terry the blind Hedgehog.

Our Episode

Alongside other stories, in the English countryside, we meet Terry, the injured, blind Hedgehog being cared for by Martin. A near death experience of his own caused Martin to rethink his life and transform from city banker to full time Hedgehog rehabilitator.

Martin talks about how he rescues Hedghogs and hoglets throughout the year and highlights the issues surrounding the decline of hedgehogs in the wild and what Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary does to help counteract this by rescuing and releasing rehabilitated hedgehogs back into the wild and help their population numbers increase. Ensuring that they don't go extinct.

However, some hedgehogs cannot be returned to the wild, like Terry, the hedgehog, who is blind. Martin shows the private gardens where Terry and other hedgehogs live who might not survive in the wild.

We hope you enjoy watching the episode! Any donations would be much appreciated.
